Namadai Informal settlement has a History of Land Issues that needs to be addressed immediately as the population growth within the settlement has increase every year without any form of formalization or establishing the settlements to leased out to its community who has been living in the area for almost 40yrs. The main issues lies within the selling of land lots to the outside community which should have been first priority to those who have occupied ever since it was a bushy land. The sight of the settlement is a eyesore to the high class residential up in Namadi Heights and Tamavua.
The issues now is for those living along the strip of land earmarked for future Highway Road reserve. The approximate dwellers along the strip counted to 200 and more. The community and individuals have complaint of unhealthy hygienic practices and Overcrowding as people within the community claims to own a piece of land and houses on rent.
Majority of the dealings in the past with Ram Bharos [deceased Land Owner], Namadai Land Purchase and the Committee and The Methodist Church of Fiji have ended up in High Court. The Government's intervention in 1997 in upgrading the settlement and gavethe project to the Namadai Land Purchase to subdivide and issue the land with first priority to those you have been currently residing in the area.
To get down and experience the daily lives of these unfortunates who worries the future of their children's and ways to get out of the slum life to acquire a piece of land, is a dream of every individual parents in the community.

Informal Settlements Within Suva-Nausori Corridor
There has been a tremendous increase in squatter population from the year 2003 to 2007 within the Nausori and Suva corridor which is very alarming to the Government in terms of infrastructure and developments and the formalizations of squatter settlements to acquire lease for 99 years. Most of these land where squatters are dwelling are State Land, Road Reserves [Crown], Foreshores, Native Land and also Freehold Land.
Some major reasons for the increase in population within the Urban centers and Towns are the lack of employments in the rural sectors and the attracting City lights which is an influential factors to our children and youths of today.
In the World today, every country and every government at every municipal level are trying to reduce or maintain the alarming increasing number of informal settlements at daily basis.
I would like to know your perspectives or views on how can we as a citizen of a Country participate in avoiding new squatter settlements coming up and how can The Government Stakeholders Agencies, The Settlement Community and The NGO"s participate in terms of Secure of land, Affordable Housing for all communities????
